Default The Number Of Classic Minis Still On The Road In UK?

The latest DVLA figures for the Mini have just been published in the July 2009 issue of Practical Classics Magazine:-

5,505,874 Total produced
1,581,887 UK sales (28.7%)
3,923,987 Rest of world (71.3%)

Latest UK Statistics:
55,318 Minis left on UK roads today
34,095 SORNed

5.66% of the 1,581,887 are now left in the UK, so around 94.34% have been scrapped/written off or exported to date.

Survivor Breakdown:
Austin Mini: 38.3%
Morris Mini: 6.2%
Rover Mini: 53.8%
Riley Elf: 0.9%
Wolseley Hornet: 0.8%

(Previously known numbers for 2002 were 117,504 Mini Saloons and Estates, and 1,771 Vans and Pick-ups left on UK roads = 119,275 total)

I just cut one up last night a Mk 2 as well, God would have found it hard to restore that one, so its off for parts we go

Worked out some more statistics using the DVLA figures above...............

119,275 Minis were on UK roads in 2002.
87,413 Minis taxed/sorned in UK in 2009.
=31,862 Minis have been scrapped/gone missing since 2002 (7 years).

Averaged out = approx. 4500 Minis scrapped/missing each year between 2002 - 2009
(or 2 x London to Brighton Runs worth every year!)

1,492,352 UK Minis have been scrapped over the past 50 years (94.34%)

I think there are more Austin Minis (38.3%) than Morris (6.2%) surviving because many of the 1970's/80's British Leyland, etc, Minis were actually registered as Austin's.
