Took 30 to Balmuir Garage this morning to set up on rolling road. Well impressed with the service. As you know, I had a replacement engine fitted at M & M's in Warrington and had a stage 1 kit fited at the same time. Car ran like a bag of spanners when I first got it back, M & M spent a morning fiddling with timing, carb etc and put the old pancake filter back on. Car can so much better afterwards, but they said it really needed setting up on a Dynanometer.

Balmuir was mentioned in the forum, so booked a slot there this morning. Not cheap at £50 per hour plus vat but hey what a difference when finished. Two hours spent replacing the pancake filter with the one that came with the kit, (so anyone less spanner challenged than me could have saved 30 mins there), setting the timing, adjusting the carb , replacing the needle and trying three different ones. Six dynonometer tests carried out, each one discussed with me nodding sagely but understanding littel, before choosing the best from the six and setting this up again.

Final test, then he road tested it and pronounced it ok. Also told me that the new exhaust manifold fitted by M&M was probably cracked and hydrocarbons from it were being sucked back into the filter. So it's back to M&M for the third time to sort this out.

For me the real purpose of this was to get the car running as well as possible...... And it runs brilliantly now, no flat spots, really good power.

37.5 hp when it went in and 43.5hp when it was finished. That's about 12% improvement over the car with the stage 1 kit fitted. Dean said I'd be lucky to get 40hp so I'm well chuffed.

Guy took a lot of time and trouble to get it right. Highly recomended

He'll do a club event for us £30 per car, minimum 10 cars.

On to the bodywork now

sounds cool John, So the closer you can get the car running the cheaper it will be. I bet the car feels good.

I have got two days off next week so I will have to give them a call and book the car in, but going to get busy with all of the kit I have borrowed from the miniaddicts.... There so much diag equipment on my dinning room table I feel like a doc...

not sure about being cheaper, the guy reckoned it was running so lean, i didn't need to put petrol in.

I'm excited and worried... I've booked the car in on Monday...... Excited as I can't wait to have it setup properly, worried in case I have done a crap job and there is something wrong, and look stupid in front of the pros :o

Still can't wait...............

Be very worried, the worst thing is watching the display as he holds the revs at between 6 & 7 thousand. At that point I wasn't sure if there was any oil in the engine. You should be getting 50plus hp with all the work you've done. Just check the cost of a taxi home, when the engine blows.
