hi all. i am new to the mini scene. have just bought me a 97 mini cooper multi coloured.the copper kinda colour.anyone know its proper name? the trouble is when i start it. the fan comes on after about a minute. anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem could be.someone mentioned a fan relay switch???? any help would be very much appreciated.i live in scottish borders. anyone know where my nearest mini club would be? cheers. steve

hey mate, welcome to the club!
not too sure about your fan problem, my '93 italian job does the same. to be honest it doesn't make any difference to my cooling so it's just dis-connected at the moment! :D

hi thanks. not tried any clubs yet but will be looking into the two you gave me.think i will disconnect my fan too. just makes such a niose running all the time.anyway thanks again. sure to be here again askin more questions about these great little motors.

Welcome to the miniaddicts forum:)
I think they changed to a front mounted rad in 97? has yours got a front or side mounted rad ?
If its a front mounted one DO NOT UNPLUG THE FAN will cause it to overheat and possibly wreck the engine. check the fan temp sensor @ the fromt behind the grill can get covered in muck & keep the fan on & then corrode and stop it working :(
If its a side mounted rad with electric fan behind it and mechanical one in front then unpluging it wont cause any problems this time of year but you might need it going up a big hill in the summer with the boot full of beer:) I think the colour is Pearlescent Volcano (Orange)

No but had a good time on my lap top! I meant which part of the borders?
