Can anybody recomend a good insurance company for a classic used only as a second car with a limited milage, preferably one that will allow mod's like wheel changes and at least a stage one kit with a decent exhaust without being too expensive

Hi I use Lancaster insurance they are part of the Mini Owners Club. I have found them very good and you get break down cover with it.

Expensive and they are slow dealing with you when you make a claim!

I was also with Lancaster with my last mini, very good, very professional and will definately be insuring the sprite through them when its finished.
My actual policy was with Equity red star who accepted mods like the exhaust, engine swap and brakes etc.
Tesco can be a tad problematic.

totally out on a limb but i'm with tesco, have been for 4 years now, they were very quick at dealing with my corsa when it met its end in may, from calling them to say it was dead to having the ££ in the bank took about 2 weeks and didn't have any probs! :)

It looks like Lancaster or Adrian Flux then and see if they give me a good price with my club discount (joined a while ago) but been to look at 4 classics recently including 1 earlier today (didn't realise how rusty some of them are out there)
Thanks for all your input

dont even mention the rust :( like i bin saying its MOT time again and i've been out wire brushing over the little rust bubbles that turned out to be massive! off to m&m's on saturday for a new front panel, outer sill and boot repair patch! all i need now is a welder and some time! and mine is only 13!! dread to think what some of the older ones have ended up like!

We insure Mavis with Tesco and not had any trouble. As for rust the Open Classic is a K reg and she is the same. Must be mini's made in this year.

yeah, rover were trialing making mini's out of coke cans and saving even more money by not rust-proofing them! guess they thought they'd make a bomb when they started rusting coz all the old dears with new cars would take them back to the dealers to get the work done! priced up the bits i need, £65 in total! mini's are great!! and i should be able to do most of it myself too! its a learning curve! right?

I'm with Lancaster. Elf fully comp. (Was £140) Studio 2 (1990) £198
Elf now on a "Laid up" policy for £39 (up to agreed value of £2500)
I would have gone with Saga (over 50's only) but they don't do classics!:)

Try these people, ask for Gary, Dean will be speaking with them soon, they have agreed in principal to a club scheme, just needs Dean etc to talk through the stages of it all.
they do very good club schemes, and one off stuff for hybrids etc
