does anyone with any kind of welding experience know this, another random ponder..
to put new drivers/ passenger footwells in, if i were to buy the footwell (about £12 per side from m&m's) would i cut the floor out of the car and then put the new peice on in its place and line it up so its flat....?
or my dad's approach - hammer the existing floorpan so its flat and then weld the new floor pannel over the top 'to add more strength' to it?
anyone know? i've just had a look through the haynes restoration book and it doesn't mention anything about doing the floor?
cheers!:)

Bit of both me thinks. Cut out all rust. Then weld underneath and on top. Dean seamed underneath and on top in the elf. No rust should be left :D

Yup remove the old floor pan and replace with a new one, or just remove the rust and patch it with new pieces, which ever is easiest!

Cut it out bar a 1 inch lip all the way round. Place the panel (inside) in the hole so it sits on the 1 inch lip.

Mark it with a felt pen and remove the panel.

Cut out any bad rust where the line lays.

Grind up the area marked by the pen all the way round.

Weld it in and seam sealer it.

It's "loads of paint" time after that.

Bobs your uncle.
