just a random thought i was having while looking through mountains of websites, does anyone know if its easy or not to upgrage the mk1 electrical system from dyno driven to alternator? not that i need to do it at the mo, just may do in the future after the next project is finished (needs getting back here to start first tho!! :( )
cheers

Somerford do an alternator in a dynamo casing... not cheap but a good period option.

cool, my dad just remembers driving 'ethal' way back in the 70's and the dyno could only just about cope with powering the engine, the second you needed headlights and wipers.... everything when dim!!

If my memory serves me right you're talking in region of at least £160 for alternator and i think you will have to change polarity etc and the regulator.

its pretty easy to do. swap the wire`s around on the batterie and coil wire up the alrernator use the relay box keeps it looking original solder all the conections up in there and hey presto negative earth wired car with an alternator:)

you made it all sounds so easy! lol! knowing my luck i'd end up with lots of wire that i tried to hide and a car that didn;t charge! and a pretty unhappy mum as the mini belonged to my (and ians) granddad!:)

Mines cool.... but then it doesn't have any extra electrics... no radio etc... soon to have a CB :D I think the bushes etc have to be in top condition.

going to keep it positive earth and double insulate the CB...
