hi just to let you know i race a mini in hot rods, and i use a 1340 mini sport stage 5 engine with a 294 cam, 45 weber carb, and metro turbo clutch, you also have to consider gearboxes as this is where most of the acceleration comes from, also what size wheel you want to use, i use 13" wheels with slick tyres and a 3.14 to 1 diff, it does 70 mph in second at 8000 revs and is pumpin out 115 bhp, if you go biger than 1340 you lose relability and risk blowing head gaskets every monday tusday wednesday, 1380 is max but rev it to about 7200, also request a compression ratio of 10 to 1, and she will screem like a turky in a blender any more nfo require let me know, p.s. dont forget about cooling as these beasts like to get hot rather quickly:)

Yep sounds goods 1380`s arnt allways the answer i built a 1100 that reved to 10.000 but didnt last long the crank snaped  not much of a fan of the weber on the road tho they do give you great power when tuned right but not as simple as the su hif44 and so on:) supercharger and turbo`s are allways fun to but they do tend to blow up alot and you need a good gearbox and diff thats what makes a mini no point having loads of power if you cant get it to the tarmac:)

webers ar'nt the problem, the su is the problem because it hides all the other problems, an su will keep an a series runin sweet even when the dizzy timings out, the cam timings out and the points r shot, webers r like twin su's but easier, get rest sorted and the carb will follow. the other problem you will av with a weber is that the engine wont burn the fuel quick enough and runs rich all the time, webers come in different sizes so decide what the car is mostly used for and go from there, i run a weber 45

minisport had ground the crank wrong for me  bearing edges were too sharp and it snaped on the oil drilling but fun while it lasted. i know what you mean about the su but if the timing mixture and su is set right you get pretty good power (not as much as a 45) and good mpg (cant believe i just said that sound like my dad) alot of peeps seem to be using throttle bodies and programable management reliable power but very expensive:)

i have to say im a big fan off 1L's there virtually indestructable! ok the gearboxes might not be but there only cheap!
get a cooper head, big cam, roller rockers and stuf on a 1L and youl have a reliable little motor,
sayin stockpiling bits to build a 1275/1293 for me mini
