is it just me or has anyone else found they keep all the invoices for the stuff they buy for their projects / daily drives etc..
put them neatly and all organised into envelopes or folders and then never look at them again incase you realise how much you've spent??

i've got 2 proper mini owners folders, one for each project with all the recipts in them,, and i'm almost too scared to see how much i've spent!
is that just me or does anyone else do that??

:confused::confused::D:D:D

I don't think it's the fact you are scared.
You have just put them away, you know you have just spent so much , you remember for a while so theres no need to go back to the receipts.

Then you forget to put new receipts next you you buy something. by the time you realise that, you lost them and then you say to your self, "Oh bugger it! what's the point?"

By this time you are getting further into the project and you are way past caring!

Later on when you are clearing out. you may find these receipts and say to yourself "Is that all I paid for that? They cost more than that now, I'm glad I bought it then!" On completion of the project you are probably too busy fine tuning, tidying it up cleaning it, or whatever, You stand back and say "I did well to do that for £?????????" OR " DID I actually spend that much? Bl**dy H**L!"

Be Honest. How many of us actually add every penny up When project is finished?
If you did. You may not start another project EVER! :D

I added everything up just after I paid for the new engine, and in the last two years, including buying the car, I have spent just over £8,000!!!!!   and it isnt finished yet!:D

I figure it will be close to £12,000 by the time I get the bodywork perfect.

If you want to insure Charlie with an agreed value you will have to give the insurance company copies of receipts ect. together with at least four photos incl.front rear and two sides, engine and interior shots. I have the Elf on an agreed £3500 but some folks have said I should have held out for £4500+

I wasn't asked about receipts for my agreed value, just pictures and a condition questionnaire. the sent it back with a certificate.

what i did was add all the receipts together then before you look at the total amount press divide by 2 and think what a bargain

I have heard a few say that but Lancaster insurance wrote to me and requested the evidence so had no option. I did not have many receipts as a lot of stuff bought at shows. They accepted that!

our agreed value is just done off pics and a description in work... if everyone with custom vehicles sent every recipt the departments would never get anything done! :)
think ill try and add up everything at the end of the projects - like the devide by 2 before you look at it tho! :)

Funny this topic has come up…. A couple of weeks back I decided to put together a history of my mini and looked through the receipts I had shoved in a draw along with a few things the previous owners gave me.

Then I did a write up on the engine rebuild and other things that have been done, with some photos and some links to various threads on here and put it all in a folder, along with old tax discs and mot’s

I thought if I ever did have to sell; It would be nice for the new owners to have and might come in handy for insurance company too.

Any way it looks pretty good in a colour co-ordinated folder and I can bore the pectorals of any one that shows the faintest interest. :D

i made a effort not to add up the cost in my head, as i was putting it together though.

cheers

Might be a good idea to divide by 2 again to make it look respectable:D
