Hi all,
Not sure what its real name is but has any one used a rotisserie \ spit on their mini?
Where can you get them from?
Are there any plans to make one yourself?
I have tried searching the net but i am finding it hard to find.
Can anyone help.
Thanks
Jon
:: EDIT ::
Also does anyone know where you can buy a rolling frame that the shell can sit on so it can be moved when the wheels are off?
Ta Jon

Try this ebay link Email the seller, he makes them fo minis too. You have to weld the supports yourself and provide the scaffolding pole.

I had considered doing that my self. It's fine if there are plenty of bodies to lift and turn for you when ever you need it turning. There is the disadvantage of the cills being at a uncomfortable height for welding or having to stand on a platform to access it. The spit can be turned by one person.
Another school of thought is that the body is heavier for the gutter to carry than the permitted weight you are supposed to put on a roof rack (that's assuming you don't put some runners along the gutter to spread the load and that the gutter is strong enough to take it)
Others simply roll the shell on to tyres or old mattresses but then there is the fire risk and damaging the roof and also the distortion of the body (as in all cases)

I wouldnt use anything other than a roll over frame Mine has been well tried & tested. A spit is good for an early mini but most dont have a hole in the back seat so then youe have to cut a hole in the back seat.
To use a spit the car has to be completely bare & a bare shell is really light you could turn it over easy on your own:)

although you do have to stand on a box when welding the underside with it upside down
it just costs me 4 cups of tea to get it turned over

soooooooooooooh! 4 cups of tea? Can't afford that, all that time standing around drinking! LOL
I see you have the roof rack legs as near to the A and C pillars as possible so you can get away with it. Fair enough.

Wally at the club has made a couple of spits, one that Steve at sd minis has used and one he made for me, he has done an excellent job, perhaps he would make one for you if you asked

Thanks for all your responses guys.
After thinking about it (and the location of the car) i think it may be best to stick with the rollers idea as there won't be room for the mini when it is suspended.
Thanks again and i hope to get some pics uplocaded once i actually manage to do do somthing with the car. I was hoping to make it for the lakes this year but i am not sure if that will be possible at the moment.

how did you attach the rear of the van to the spit?

Same way as the saloons. A beam across the rear shock absorber mountings on the wheel arches, (similar to the beam across the front.) You will have to check the wheel arches are still atttached to the body first!
There may be a slight imbalance due to the extra metal but I don't think it will be far out (if at all)
