got the front end fully seam welded and the front floor and made a section for the roof. I know that the mini from new was spot welded but seam welding is so much stronger so every panel that has been replaced has been done that way.

from what i've seen n what i'v bin told (denty!:)) the best thingh 2 do is give em a quick wipe with thinners, if the black paint comes off on ur cloth - take it all off n primer the metal, otherwise just key it with 800 n should be ok, i've not had any major probs with snythin consistent, just odd bits or reaction or contaminents!
cheers

Indeed it does! i was just wondering, what did you use / what would you recommend for replacing cut out parts (not full panels) that have gone to rust such as the corner of your roof, were going to be welding soon and I'm not whats the best option. :)

Cheers,

-James

believe it i used some galvanised steel that i got from a fabrication place i know and you can weld it just smell's a bit it's what i always use just don't use to thick as you need to bend or shape it plus i made it in 2 bits and used a sand bag with panel beating hammer.

Nibby
17-03-2009, 08:55 PM
Cheers bud, is there any places you'd recommend getting the galvanised steel from?

endo-mini
17-03-2009, 09:04 PM
if you can find a place that makes gates or use steel as they will have small of cuts that you can buy for very little otherwise you can use old door skin or similar i have used old washing machine panel but you need to clean the paint off. good luck mate.

The car looks like it's coming on a treat. It's amazing what you can do on your driveway with a Mini......& slightly scary when you see the plethora of places that they go rusty!

endo-mini
24-03-2009, 08:41 PM
yep the rust well but this one will be one that does'nt anymore with the amount of paint on it. even more amasing is that when new the amount of places that they were'nt painted.
