At the risk of sounding thick... What is a megajolt?

I don’t know ether….. It looks like an electronic control unit to sort out your fuelling, tailoring it to your own car, using a computer program ? Not sure…… :)

cheers

This topic has some good information on it although it looksa bit costly.

Its a simple ECU that controls the engines timing, and replaces the minis distributor. the fueling on a Megajolt is still via your carb. So its a 1/2 way house between a carb mini and an injection mini like an SPI or Alex's mpi.

The advantage is that you can tune the ignition timing dependant of the revs and engine load. Allowing much finer tuning that a distributor. You don't have to worry about a worn dizzy or the dreaded wet weather cutting out..

So both an advantage on a forced induction engine like mine or even Steve's Carb'd engine, as can be seen from the change in maps on the vid above.

nice kit.. will cost about £250-£300 + installation and mapping, you can buy it in stages as its a number of bits...

Thats made it much clearer thanks.

As i'm looking to hopefully have a reliable mini for day to day use would you recommend getting this as an "essential" buy?

The big advantge is that you well not break down in the wet ( like a dizzy does ) and once set and tuned to your engine, your timing should stay in tune.

If you have the money, than I would say yes.

sounds like best of both worlds.

Here is a vid of the exhaust which is a maniflow.

As the revs get higher you can tell when the rev limiter kicks in at 6800 revs the limiter is set by the megajolt.
