When i go along the motorway in the rain my mini sometimes holds back and backfires due to water getting to the electrics at the front i have a splash guard is there anything else i can do, i have also tried wd40 to keep the water off them.

Get a rubber glove and cut the finger tips out and then place it over the dizzy cap, you may have to cable tie the finger to the leads to seal them.
