Their fine. It happens to me as well! Annoying as I don't have a cinema screen either!
It's looking good. Acid baths take all the body filler out as well I believe.
The big question is how much is the dipping process?

The dipping costs about £500 but i sent all the new panels and had them done at the same time so it makes it cheaper to e coat it as you dont have to pay for a second dipping
the whole lot dipping and e coating costs about 1000/1100 but once its done you wont see any rust for years

Paint job looks lovely! did you say you made the dash yourself? i could do with one of them :D
march717
13-04-2009, 10:07 PM
i started with a knackered ally dash that someone had drilled a load of holes in
so i pulled off the ally which is only 1mm thick and got a sheet of 1mm carbon fibre stuck it on with stikaflex and spent 2 days cutting the holes out with a tiny grindind wheel in a dremel i tried cutting holes with a bigger wheel but it shatters the edges so this was my second attempt so if you do one be prepared to take your time and dont make the same mistake as me

Ive got a little bit further the car is now on its wheels i got fed up with the four wheel steer trolley
most of the wiring is done ,ive put the engine in ,next is the interior not looking forward to the headlining bit
its been on the go for 2 years now so another 6 months should see it mobile

ive had a few days on the mini ive finaly got it on its wheels i put the doors on
i put in the headlining which can only be described as self torture
i wanted to put electric windows in so have been looking around for some motors ,i tried allsorts renault megane is the closest that would fit with a bit of work
in the end i gave in and got some from moss that fit lovely
i got some switches from the states that they use on hot rods that retain the original winder hanldle
so i spent a bit of time making it all fit and hopefully it should work ok

Done a little bit more on the mini
spent about 3 weekends under the dash doing the wiring, the back of the dash looks like a relay storage cupboard
i put a batery on and everything wrks apart from the wiper motor which burnt out in about 5 seconds
i bought a coil spring conversion kit at imm so ican fit that and sort out my ride height issue
i was hoping to get it finished by uttoxeter but its not looking likely

Ive got a little bit further with the mini although for 1 step forward ive gone 650 back
i had a few issues with the paintwork and was also a little clumsy with a screwdriver, the tool to fit the windscreen filler strip is cheaper than paint !
i also wanted to fit my spring kits so i took the subrames off and pulled most of the interior out and sent it back to the paintshop
i am now back to where i was in august apart from putting the engine back in .
ive fitted my coil spring kits but had to make some bases that fit the subframes as they dont come in the kit
i was also given a set of 4pot kad calipers by a friend that he didn't want which ithought was a nice result
not sure when it will be finished as ive given up putting a date on it but hopefully by the time the sun comes out next year
if it stops raining for long enough at the weekend i will take some more photos

Finally got it running on saturday although did have a few probems, had an injector stuck open and had neat fuel running out of the exhaust and fitted the conecter for the stepper motor into the engine relay box and vice versa(no cranking)
so not got far to go now, got to fit the bits in the doors get the brakes working and a few little bits of sorting out and tidying up and it should be ready for mot so hopefully should be on the road by the time the sun comes out
if it stops raining for long enough to take a picture i'll post some more
i would like to get it finished by march as its the third anniversary of its rebuild being started
has anyone taken longer than three years ?

she passed her mot today
i also drove it the road for the first time today which was nice
(ive only done 10 miles in it in the 3 years ive owned it)
ive got a bit of cosmetic tinkering to do tomorrow and will tax it in the morning then give it a good run round and should all be well for himley on sunday
the only problem ive got is the alternater packed in on the way back from mot
i dont think its liked been taken to bits and bead blasted but i should be able to get a new one on sunday

i finished the mini this afternnon and got it taxed
so i shall be be going for a ride to himley
ive not had chance to drive it about so it will be its first good run apart from 2 miles to the mot station
so if you see a red mini on the a41 doing 20 mph causing traffic chaos it will probably be me
Good news about your MOT. Have a good day out at himley. Sadly I can't make this one:(
