I've just done a load of work on a "91 aftereight"( 998 bog standard)that i left in the garage for 2 and a half years i changed the bypass hose gave the water pump a good rinse ,rinced the cooling system and checked that the 88 thermostat opened in a saucepan of boiling water.I've taken it out for a run of about 10 miles and the temp dial doesn't get above the white halfway mark.Is this normal ? coz I can't remember.

Halfway is normal.

The mini van Deano,Phil and I drove to Mini Meet East over here in the States was right up to the Top all the way for 150 or so miles, in temperatures of 85 degrees!!!!! (and back it was the same.!)
Paul (mini mouse) has e-mailed me to say the rad was 80% blocked when he took it off. He's now cleaned it out and it's running normal now.:)

On the way there the temp wasd on about half way then went up as the hills did but a standard 998 shouldnt go that high or much above halfway
