Anyone know whats the base setting for the mixture screw on a HIF44 carb, Is it all the way in and so many turns out???? Do you screw it in to weaken it or out.
My car has a major overfueling problem and I need to get it running a little better so I can drive it back to A&B next Saturday for them to take another look at the set up for me.

You screw out to weaken it. In to rich it. It is hard to say how many turns out. I would get a colourtune and set it with that if I was you.

if you have the correct needle the jet should sit 2.5 mm (0.100 in) from the top when choke isnt applied.
Ive found theis always to be a good starting point then just a minor adjustment if really needed i will try and find the exact setting.

in the Rover workshop manual it says
Sealed adjustment type screw the nut down three complete turns (18 flats)
Non-sealed adjustment type, screw the nut down two complete turns(!2 flats)
im guessing the sealed type is a hiff 44

Thanks guys for your input, it runs so rich at the moment that if I clean and dry the plugs, start it up, within a minute its so overfuelling that its misfireing badly and if I pull the plugs straight out they are black and very wet.
Does anybody have a spare HIF44 I could borrow for a few days???
