Hi all sorry for the silence.

Just wondering really if any1 else on here with the new mini has had a power steering pump failure.

Mine failed on me last saturday whilst driving down a rather steep hill and turning left round a sharp bend (lil bit scary) it locked the steering up on me then came back on and spat the car across the road towards a rather nasty drop. It then proceeded to be intermitent. As I was around 150 miles from home at the time I had rather a scary drive back.
Called into BMW dealer on the way home and they recognised the fault without even looking at the car or running diagnostics test on it, so being the suspicious sort I asked if it was a known fault or not to which i got llittle response, have since done some research and have found out alot of people are experiencing the same and due to the fault being intermitent BMW will not cover it under warrany as it could be DRIVER ERROR.
My lovely local dealer also then tried to tell me it would cost £600 to fix it Yep you read it right £600. Told them to stuff it and have since bought a nice new pump for £300 and I will fit it myself.
So really like I said wondering if any1 else has experienced this and just also to let others know of it.

Ness.

Drives me mad when i hear of things like that happening.

They promise the Earth to you when your thinking of buying one & they are expensive high quality cars.

We keep hearing these things happening you would thing they would fix it for free to keep it quiet as it was a potentially lethal fault

Good luck with the fix

Tell me bout it you could always just threaten them in a nice way by saying, by telling the whole mini community how pants the service is and it will dent they rep, which showroom is it ?

Well the brum is back on the road and so far so good on the pump front.

The guy I got the new pump from was fantastic, well helpful and is even gonna give me money back when I send him the offending article. Alot more than my local dealer offered me.

It wasnt too bad a job to do after all so only took a day to do that the front brakes and a service so I am now a happy bunny again.

Ny local mini dealer is in Newport cant recall their name as I aint gonna go there again and wouldnt reccommend them to anyone.

Enjoy the sunshine all.
