after saturdays poor performance of 32bhp ive started to try and find out whats caused it.....

the guys at a.b said it could be weak valve springs but the compressions at 150psi....

im only looking to get about 40-45bhp at the wheels...

so am changing the HT leads tomorrow and checking that all the injectors and sensors are connected properly.. will let you know how it goes tomorow

Valve springs could be weak & still get good compression as they only need enough spring to close the valve`s for good compression.

They may not be able to close valve`s quick enough at a higher Rpm As the compression test is only done with the power of the starter motor.

I would check the tappets & make sure pushrods are straight.

With MPI`s its usually something to do with the fueling/ plastic throttle body.

right today ive taken the spark plugs out again and gave them a clean and reset them... the plug in no 4 had a gap of 1.4 :eek: its ment to be 0.8 so reset that and put it all back together. then i set about checking all the sensors were in properly and the connections were clean.
the airflow sensor wsnt tight and hada lot of dirt on it. so out it came and cleaned it up, refitted it and cars running alot better.
tomorrow am goin to have a little look at the injectors and the tappets

:o starting to feel a litle happier about driving it at the IMM now

knowing what the cams are like in minins,Id be mesuring the lift mate sounds to me the cam is badly worn.

Also when was the fuel filter last changed? you be very suprised what a new one would do,its gets rid of loads of un wanted flat spots

imite just get a new one wen i get back from the imm. or while am there.. (eruo mite work in my favour)

ill change the fuel filter on it friday. next day i mite get chance to work in it.

driving home from work tonight i noticed the exhaust was blowing, wen you put your foor to get floor........

hadnt done it upuntil tonight on my way home and a guy was doin 15 in a 60....

so job for tomorrow along with fixing up my other mini ready for mot friday is to sort out the exhaust.

stil havent had time to checkthe push rods but the exhuast will have a major part of it not producing the power

was stil having problems with the mini and on friday as i got into work it dies and wouldnt start at all.. so pushed it into a space and went to work.. came out and it started up ok... so drove home. got 1/2 way and it started to die again.pulled over and left the engine tiking over, popped the bonnet and got out to have a little look.
looking around the engine bay could see a little bit of smoke coming from the exhaust. as id tightend it up thursday i thought it was a little odd.. could hear a hissing noise aswel. thats wen alarm bells started to ring.
the CAT had collapsed and was blockin the exhaust. so got a 15mm socket out an undid the pipe befor the cat and drove it home

woo hoo changed it today and it goes like stink again.. problem solved.! :D :D :D

i know very unlike me to keep that standard... lol was very happy to find out it was that....

but replaced it with the same box minus the inners as i havent got time to get the part befor i leave wednesday morning beeing a bankholiday weekend!

goes like stink now tho. wanna get it back on the rollers to find out what its actually pushing!
