I have a MINI one 54 plate and when i depress or release the clutch there is a noise coming from the engine i took it to be checked out and they advised it is noise from the clutch plate but it is a characteristic of the car i was just wondering if anybody else have experienced the same noise?

Hi & welcome to the forum Not many of the new mini owners seem to have much trouble with them.
But unless they take the gearbox off i cant see how they could say what it is may just be thrust bearing? but if the gearbox comes of its good practice to wack another clutch in anyway.
How many miles has it done?

you could always ask the dealer to test drive another car to see if its the same

Hi thanks for the replies the dealer is a ford garage so doesnt have any othere minis however we have another mini in the family and that doesnt make the noise and thats why i know there is something wrong with it but they are insisting there isnt they are now saying its the release bearing that making the noise they dont seem to know what there doing

can you take it to another ford garage with the warranty and get them to sort it? You could also try Ford customer services and complain about the dealer if you want to add pressure. The reluctance is probably the amount of work to change the bearing.

Hi i have had a similar problem on by 55 plate mini one which i add has done less than 5000 miles. It has already had a new gear box and is now returning to the BMW dealer as making what i can only discribe as a chattering noise when depressing and releasing the clutch(im a women and no little about these things)ha ha

Hi thanks for getting back to me i am still battling with the garage to fix this problem they are stating it is a characteristic of the car apparantely i think the service from BMW is disgusting for the price of the car and they cant be bothered to fix it.

Maybe the AA or RAC will take up your case (if you are a member of either)
Maybe they will say "You should have asked us to give it a going over first" ????
