hope to pick ur brains here guys if u dont mind!normal mini 1.3i,wouldnt start last week due to flat battery,decided 2 get a new 1 coz the old one looked past its best,put it on everything fine did a couple of miles in the car then everything seemed to die as i was driving wipers lights etc,find out alternator wasnt charging enough,tightened fanbelt due to slipping slightly,start up everything fine correct voltage spot on problem solved as so i thought,couple of miles later again everything seems to die then same problem flat battery again! any advice on what you guys might think cud be the answer to my problem cheers!:confused:

Did you clean inside the battery clamps? sometimes they corrode inside.

is the earth strap cable to the battery poppin off atall when you check or loose on the connection? found this to be a problem with mine give the clamp a good whack ontop to make sure its pushed to the bottom and jobs a goodun

its not alarm / immobiliser related is it? I dont know if the 1.3i have them but my sisters 1995 R100 does and you get the same thing when you turn the key without disabling it the engine just clicks like a flat bat

I seem to be getting a very similar issue with the same model - 1.3i Cooper (1992). I have taken it to a mechanic who is taking a look at the moment. I have already checked the connections to the battery which seem fine and clean. I'll post a reply if/when I get an answer to what the issue is with my Cooper. cheers

The problem I experienced was 2 fold. 1) The alternator was shot so the engine was running off the battery. 2) The head gaskett was also shot. I hope this is NOT what happened with yours. cheers Byrnster
