Minutes of Meeting of Miniaddicts
Held on Wednesday, 5th September 2007

Present: – At the last head count at the meeting - 28 Miniaddicts. 18 Minis on the Car Park.

Dean opened the meeting by welcoming everyone to our new venue – The Springfield Hotel. As you can see we have a much larger room here. We still don’t know what happened to cause the Red Lion at Northop to close but rumour has it that there is planning permission to put 4 houses on the overspill car park, so if and when it re-opens there won’t be as much car parking space, therefore we will not be returning there.

August

Last month was the busiest the Club has experienced.

Sunday, 5th August 2007 – Bala & Pistyll Rhaeadr

Good day out. Great scenery and it was sunny for a change. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Saturday/Sunday 18th/19thAugust 2007 – M.I.T.P. – Santa Pod

We had a good run down but when we got there it started to rain. The facilities for camping were awful. Our stand was very small and the site was a mud bath. We met up with Kings Lynn Mini Owners Club. When we arrived at our stand everyone was pretty fed up so we came up with three options: 1. Stay; 2. Go home; 3. Park up as best we could and go home when we felt we wanted to. We went with option 3. as our stand was on the edge of the site and we could leave at any time. So in the end we made the best of a bad job and as the rain did stop eventually it turned out better than we thought. The overall feeling was that this event was poorly organised considering Santa Pod hosts a lot of different events over the year.

Saturday, 1st September 2007 – Northop Classic Car Show

The Show this year was held at the Welsh College of Horticulture because of the ban on entry into agriculture areas, due to the foot & mouth outbreak elsewhere in the counry. There was a lot of local interest and some very nice classic cars on show. The weather was a big improvement on last year.

Sunday, 2nd September 2007 – Sandon Hall

Unfortunately Dean wasn’t well and couldn’t make this show. Tony gave a report. It was a good show and the general opinion was that we would go again next year. We had a stand there for 8 cars. 5 cars went but it was felt that there would not have been room for 8. We picked up a mini from Halifax on the way.

Sunday, 9th September 2007 – Stamford Hall

This show marks the end of the Mini Year. We do not have a stand at Stamford but some members were going independently. If there are enough interested they would go down in convoy. There is nothing on the calendar now until the Blackpool run.

Sunday, 16th September 2007 – Blackpool run in aid of the Meningitis Trust

We have had some co-operation from the Police this year. Plaques are available for a donation of £5 for the Charity. The run starts at 11:00 am at Focus – Chester. Next meet is in Blackpool. It is advisable to take your own food, as last year the supermarket was closed when we arrived.

October run

We do like to organise a run for the Sunday following our Meeting. Dean put it to the members for volunteers to organise runs. Steve has volunteered to organise the next run, which will be Sunday, 7th October 2007.

Suggestions

It was decided that we should have a suggestion box. We would like suggestions for events you may wish to organise and take part in, runs or anything you think may be of interest to the members.

Gazebo

We have been very unlucky with the gazebos we have purchased. Anyone who has been on a wet event with us will appreciate the need for a good waterproof gazebo. We would like to purchase a 3 x 3 easi-up and try it out, then maybe we could purchase another 1 or 2 but it depends on the space we are allocated at shows because we do need to get our minis on the stand too.

Riviera Run next year to Newquay, Cornwall

Some members have expressed an interest in this run. We are hoping to have more information for the next meeting. Steve, who has done this run, recommended hiring a static caravan as the camping facilities there are poor. He said it was a good run but a small show. If you book early there is a discount.

The Forum

Unfortunately our Forum went down recently for two days. We do apologise for this – it was something to do with the server. We have changed our server and we are hoping to get some money back from the old server. We have 1,000 hits on the Forum per week. Our new server is much quicker. A big thank you to Tom, Rob and Eric for getting us back on line.

The Weather

It has been an awful year weatherwise and we have no control over this. Thank you for your support under what have at times been atrocious conditions. Better luck next year.

T-Shirts

We can apparently ask our suppliers to print our names or nicknames on the t-shirts. Please ask when you are due to renew your membership and we can have them printed for you.

Dean thanked everyone for attending and hoped they liked our new venue.

Raffle – raised £30 tonight.

Date of next meeting: Wednesday, 3rd October 2007
