Hi Peeps. I have seen the DVLA Transit van floating in and around Chester today. The first time I saw them was just round the corner from my place this morning clamping a VW Golf GT. the next was in Hoole, not sure what car was (going too fast!) I text Deano who replied he had seen a MG clamped in Handbridge, minutes later they appeared to be heading for the Lache. Who's next?
I'm all for the Clamp down (if you pardon the pun) on these road tax evaders but I can't help feeling sorry for those who cannot take the cars off the highway if they havent got a drive. So if there are any of you out there who haven't declared their minis SORN.... Do it NOW, it doesn't cost anything and only takes a few minutes on the PC and of COURSE GET IT OFF the highway
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !

All I can say is how can we support the above link when the north wales police camp out on the deside bypass with about 4 to 5 car plus a van saying a big hello and welcome to Wales, how much is that costing. All they do is pick on car drivers. When my mates van was broken into nobody had time come out. North Wales are anti car drivers. And a complete waste of time. We have reported car speeding in my village and nothing happens. So I will not helping north wales police with above link.

The reason for Operation Debar is quite simple to catch drivers of cars who have no driving licence, no insurance, tax, mot etc. Many drivers who are stopped for the above, especially no licence, insurance turn out to be involved in other crime aswell, namely drug trafficing, car theft etc.
And before you go off on a rampage with your mouth you try coming in and doing my job for a week, and dont tell me about "no police", if you want more police then pay more tax! I am all too aware of us not having enough police, as I was attacked last week while on the beat, and my nearest back up when i called for assistance was 15 minutes away, all because we cannot afford more police!
And the simple reason we have a load of cars and a ANRP van on the deeside bypass is to catch drug trafficers, as this is the main route used by them to travel through north wales!
And how can you report a car speeding? did u have north wales police approved equipment to measure the speed it was traveling at? im like what you ment was that we was driving dangerously, and i assure you anyone you have reported will have recieved a visit from us!

Gulp...... I think its not the paying of tax thats the problem its how the gov choose to use it. The "people" in the UK pay a great deal of tax.
I have worked for a number of very well known gov departments and the waste of cash shocks me. We bleed it as there is an endless supply.... like MOT's are currently being looked at as adding VAT therefore a 17.5 % increase....
So when you pay about 22% in TAX and NI before you get your cash and then another 17.5% on the things you the buy you are already paying about 40% not to mention higher rate products like fuel.
As I say paying more tax I don't think is the answer...... As we have become a collection of people that have had our industrys slashed there is a general culture of trying to increase margins getting more for less, taking olives out of jars, less workers... this is being become a part of our culture with this and spin there is only one way down.....
mm a bit gloomy
.
If more £££ wasn't wasted on dodgy speed cameras there'd be more traffic cops doing a decent job. Every time either my car or a parent's car has been broken into a police officer has physically told us they'll be coming round and then hasn't even turned up. I can understand there may be more important stuff, but a letter will suffice to explain?
Only recently I contested when I was sent an NIP saying I'd driven through a red light when I hadn't and they refuted my contest right up until 2 days before the court date. How much of the tax payers money was wasted there. That's the 3rd time too. Twice previously the same thing has happened when I've been accused of speeding, once it was a totally different car that they claimed I owned
It's not the bobby on the beat's fault at all either, it's the stupid government and councils who have no clue. On the news today I heard Ken Livingstone seems to have paid the ex-transport minister (or someone similar) £900,000 for basically doing FA, claiming he was a consultant, but when they queried what advice he'd given they straight out said that there were no records kept. Not even that they'd lost them, they just didn't bother keeping any records of what he did. That close to a million could have easily been put to better use.
Rant over. Apologies.

Well said graham my personal feelings are exactly the same we pay the tax but then gov and people with power choose to spend the money on stupid things when we need the likes of more police and nurses and firemen

I agree as well that the government are wasting the ££ they are screwing out of us. 40% tax is rediculous! now they've added the 'green' stealth tax so anyone going on holiday has to pay a random amount of £ at the check in gate to pay to go on a plane! not like the tax we pay on everythin is enough! the Road tax has gone up again! and i haven't seen many of the roads needing work getting them! pot holes are very dangerous in a mini!
I'm going to stay impartial to the police argument, only to say i've had plenty of less than favourable encounters with them trying to give spot fines out without reason! I got pulled once for having bucket seats and racing harness' on as they said they couldn't see from driving past me that i was wearing a seat belt! and that the harness' were bright blue! they suggested i change them to yellow to make them more visable!
I got pulled over by a guy from widnes by cheshire oaks for doing 40 in a national as he didn't know what the speed limit was!
and when ian's car was nicked in chester, they wouldn't send any one out, then after i picked him up and we were heading home we found the car in ellesmere port, he rung the police again, they said there was no-one in ellesmere port at all, not even in the area, and were more conserned (quite comically!) how he was driving and talking on his mobile at the same time! they didn't actually listen to his car had been stolen so how could he be driving it!! or that he was in my car and i was driving!
but they are the first to stop you for not doing anything wrong! (like driving in thick fog with fog lights on! <another £30!>) Think as has been said before the service is overstretched and over targetted meaning they only attend if there is a guarenteed conviction because of the ridiculous targets the government puts for police, fire, health and education!
This thread started with tony saying be carefull and make sure if you're car's not taxed/ Mot'd it is declaired sorn and seems to have strayed!
Think this country is on the brink of fallin apart! the moral of the story is.....
start planning how to export your mini parts! i was thinking Austrailia or Gibralta!

but im the 1st one they'd pull over wheni was driving my focus.
they question where i had been what i had been doin and who i had been with.
also i got 3 points and £60 for doin 34 in a 30 only reason i was doin that was there was a load of skallys sat at the side of the road throwing stuff at cars in front and hang on im already paying 800 insurance and 8grand for that car so i know lest drive a little slower
anyway my cars taxed and insured thanks for the warning tony

what can I say The government don’t fund the police or the health service fire etc fully
North Wales police tend to be on the strict side when it comes to the motorist but as a ex traffic officer tells me who is still in the police force its run as a business ££ and the best law breakers££ to catch are the motorists speeding etc etc
He also went on to tell me that in the old days if you did someone for less than 40mph you would get the micky taken out of you
As every business is run they have targets to hit and money to make so they are going to do it the way they do .
But that doesn’t help you when you need a copper.

I'm glad this has turned into a lively debate. I've found all the comments quite interesting. However I do feel that Liam has a point in suggesting that we report untaxed cars.I myself would only be too glad to do that, after all if I didn't and that car smashed into mine, I'd be well and truly gutted, as I know the chances are if it's not taxed,it's probably not insured either, and irrespective of whether or not it was MOT'd and the driver may not have a driving license. I would have a hell of a job and a long wait to get the ok from the insurance company and I would lose my no claims bonus through no fault of my own.
I rest my case
Oh Please keep the comments coming! Get 'em off your chest!!!!!!!!!!:D

Here Here!! when i had my first mini it was stock no mods no body kit just a plane 1986 Mayfair, since having my cooper i have been pulled over 5 times in 18 months without any reasons, I wasn't speeding or breaking any laws, they just see a young lad driving a loud car and pull you over and precede to search the car and check the tires! asking a lot of irrelevant questions on the way! All this and £1300 insurance!
TONYELF
14-06-2007, 08:15 PM
I sympathise with you on that score Richy, but if the car was stolen you would only be too pleased they stopped it.We can't have it both ways!
Yes I know everyone says the police pick on drivers of all ages, thats probably cos we are easy pickings after all all our details are on Computer which makes their job easier to check on us!
I have heard it said that if they can't get you for say a bald tyre, to make it worth their while stopping you they will do their best to find something else!
Liam, Any comment on that one?

Normally you would only get pulled over if you have done something wrong, like your manner of driving etc. Or if something comes up when ur numberplate is read!
Normally if i flag someone down for something, i do run checks to see if there is anything! one example, i gave a woman a ticket for parking in a bus stop, causing an obstruction. After running a check on her it turns out she has been arrested before and is a known drug user, dealer. Also the police national computer did not have a car registered in her name, so then i was able to link that vehicle to her. It all goes towards building a bitter picture of criminals!
in regards to searching vehicles etc it's standard procedure, you'd be suprised what get's found in innocent looking people's cars!

I agree with MiniRichy, cops do seem to target young lads especially! I don't tend to have any trouble touch wood, (think thats due to the fact i drive an estate!), but i know a few m8s get stopped a lot driving Corsas and such like. I think to be honest the best drivers on the road are people aged between 25 and 50! I'v had a few near misses with old dears who can't even see over the dashboard!!
An Siano i'm a car doctor does that mean i should get paid more money??!!!
As for the Police debate i think a lot of us over see wot they actually do do! Fair enough if u'v had bad experiences like a lot of us had you would put them down but on the other hand from liamitalians point of view i bet he never stops!!! I would much rather the Police deal with a rape, murder or kidnapping before they start looking for the piece of metal that has gone missing off my drive!!! :D :D

Dont agree with this, i went through a phase of being pulled over around once a week, and the only way to get around it was to report the police, to the police, to which is stopped. My problem being a young lad driving a power full car.
The police force may be ran like a business, and i fully support the police trying to get the non insured, tax brakers etc. I pay a fortune to keep my car legal, Insureance, tax etc so would should any one else be different.
Have to agree though, when ever you do need the police, you cant actuly get one. We had an incident a while back where me mates car got broken into, we found the guys and the car they were in, and followed it while being on the phone to the police, to which they said, stop following the veihicle, theres no one available, and i we carried on we would be done for harresment. Now thats a joke.
