Hi, I'm thinking of fitting a 1600 sohc vauxhall engine in my mini using the allspeed conversion/or making my own? does anyone out there have one that has been completed that I could possibly have a spin in to see if its worth all the expense and hassle?Just want to make sure it doesnt affect the handling too much.

I dont mind making my own but its obviously going to take longer, spoke to Matt from 16v mini shop, really helpfull guy but I'm not sure ive got the 550 quis spare at the mo, (mind you I'll get it from somewhere if its that good).

Regards Miles

None of our members have tried a 1.6 vaux in a mini yet. Rob put one in his Corsa after a struggle, can't steer it in a straight line tho! too much power!
However, there is an article in the March issue of mini magazine on page72 where Allspeed have put a 1.6 16 valve stonker in a mini. Looks awsome!!:D

Hi, If the wife has her way and we buy another mini for the daily use, this is the conversion i will be doing as i have been studying the honda and vauxhall conversions to fit in a std round nose and be really reliable and driveable with the essence on refinement rarther than ouright speed as i already got that bit!!
The honda being 16v is a bit more complex to fit in and expensive to buy but gains from having equal length drive shafts so zero torque steer once it is setup correctly which is crucial in any conversion as you could have a ride in a badly setup version and be put up off it by the way it handles etc which is down to set up and not the quality of the conversion.
The vauxhall on the other hand is a bit cheaper on the donor vehicle and more readily available and easier to fix with more room for installation and just as reliable.
Here is a link to a site which gives you a rough budget to do the whole job yourself as the subframe is just the tip of the iceberg.
http://www.1.6mini.co.uk/?page_id=15
You have to be realistic with any project when it comes to cash if you want to be able to see it through and it not end up for sale as an abandoned project for sale and you losing a shed load of cash!!

If you need anymore advice please give me shout or i would be willing to undertake a new project anyway soon.

Cheers

Hello welcome to the forum the engine rob put in the corsa was a c20let 2.0 redtop turbo  But anyway hallwombat is selling the bigblock vaux subframes very cheap in our for sale section but not so good if you want to fit a sohc:)

Dereks mini`s with the mini limo for hire is putting a 1.6 8valve vaux engine in his new limo as they fit under a standard nose:)

Hope this helps and i think the small vauxhall engines are becoming a popular transplant so the should be plenty of info about.

Cheers Deano
