Just fitted a new carb to charlie after stripping it down, de-greasing it and putting it back together.
Fitted it, everything is moving ok and seems like the float chamber has fuel, but just not starting!
tried adjusting the mix miles both ways and still no luck! had a glimmer of about 2/3 secs running then nothing!
anyone got any ideas?
need to get it sorted tonight coz i need the car tomorrow!
me and my bloody whims!
cheers

Sorry , can't help you with that Eric. Only yesterday I was saying about minis were designed for convenient too-ing and Fro-ing (not sure how you spell them two words !) and any variation on that theme is bound to create some problems so expect them and suffer or sort em out. only joking of course !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blimey I have enough probs keeping the Studio 2 bog standard without complicating matters! LOL:D

wasn't doing anything super tuning tho, just fitting a normal size one to a 1275 rather than the one rover stuffed on to restrict it!
is still a standard setup tho, its got the right needle in it, freely moves and there is fuel getting through but think i've flooded it now!
gonna leave it while i have something to eat, then go back out and turn the mix right down low and try again!

Eric, Take the dash pot off and the piston out wind the jet up so its flat to the bridge then down two full turns. Check everything can move and the choke mech is working at returning... Oh this is if you dont have a HIF Mine was the old type I have a 1.25 if you want to borrow it...but I don't think it would fit your manifold.
P.S you did put oil in the dash pot I forgot when I rebuilt mine and it wouldn't start....

ITS ALIVE!!
at last, thought i'd checked everything i could and the problem was lying with the mix, i took the mix adjuster screw out when i was cleaning it yesterday, just a case of trial, didn't work, turned the mix, didn;t work, and kept going untill i got a glimmer of start and whent from there. and eventually i got it going!
not running properly and my throttle cable is sticking a bit but it goes. i'll try doing a proper tune tomorrow, got a bit late and it seems much louder now! hopefully i'll get a smother running car with some power now!
cheers guys!

if you cant get a new cable I used an anti stretch brake bike cable from Halfords, you can cut to your own length, I had to file the end down to get it to fit the pedal..

Got it in one! The throttle stick I think is the spring on the carb, works fine when you nail it but for cruising it doesn't return so the car has got a mind of its own at the moment! Never had cruise control before! Goes better than before and its barely set! See what everyone means about su,s and a series running no matter what!
Cheers for the advise guys!

The trouble with the Hif44 is that they fitted them to so many cars some had allsorts of gadgets on them some even had an electric cut off. i once had one off a Meastro it looked like a spare part off a space shuttle:eek:
The breather you can block off is the one the oil breather went to.
The filter my not fit as the back plate is smaller.
If you are stuck ive got a few hif44`s knocking about come and compare them.
Cheers Deano
I had a look on mine and I can't help. haha. It's a HIF38 I think rather than a 44 cuz my throttle cable assembley is the other way up.
Although I was surprised because you reckoned it wouldn't have a HIF38??
I dunno. I'll have another look.

the italian jobs had hif38s to restrict them, they are only 1.5 inch were as the 44 is 1.75 inch. I've just replaced my 38! thats what started all these problems! :D
should be sorted soon ish tho... fingers crossed!
